Building dashboards in Tableau, although a fun and creative process, can sometimes feel a little daunting, especially when you're aiming to design something that’s both visually engaging and analytically insightful. With so many elements, it’s easy to get overwhelmed. A good dashboard needs to answer the right questions, highlight the right data, and do it all in a way that feels intuitive for the end user.
I recently wrapped up a personal project that had been in the works since before my time at the Data School - a comprehensive sales dashboard built using Tableau’s renowned Superstore Dataset. This project has been a great opportunity to apply and reflect on everything I’ve learned so far not only during my time at the Data School, but also before during the interview process and experimenting.
In this upcoming ‘Superstore Dashboard Project’ blog series (don’t know if this is the correct way to call this type of content but I’m going to call it this anyways), I’ll be breaking down the full journey I took to build this dashboard from the early sketches I made, all the way to development in Tableau. Whether you’re just starting out in Tableau or looking for new ways to refine your dashboard building workflow, I hope you’ll find some valuable insights along the way.
Look out for the next blogs in the series, where I’ll cover:
- Sketching a dashboard
- Setting Up Parameters, Building KPI Charts and more
- Building an Orders Table (the hacky way)
- Building the dashboard
Stay tuned!
