For Dashboard Week Day 2, DS56 will analyse historical ETF (Exchange Traded Fund) performance on the London Stock Exchange. Using Power BI, they will transform thousands of individual tables into a high-performance business dashboard that delivers sharp, investor-grade insights.
The Brief
The group has been provided with a massive repository of historical market data, including:
- 4,000+ Tables: Individual text files for various ETFs.
- Core Metrics: Daily Open, High, Low, and Close (OHLC) prices, plus Trading Volume.
Using Power Query to handle the data prep, DS56 will need to create an analytical experience provides users with the following:
- A Market Overview: A high-level look at total trading volume and market momentum. Which stocks are heating up, and where is the money moving?
- A Ticker Deep-Dive: A focused view allowing users to pick a specific ETF and see its individual "story" - tracking its daily price swings, volatility, and historical growth.
The dashboard must be a functional business tool, enabling users to move from broad market trends to specific fund performance.
DS56 will need to present how they went about their data prep, their report sketches, and their Power BI reports at 3.30pm this afternoon, followed by a blog post reflecting on the technical hurdles of the day. Good luck! 📈
