Why is our Voice so important?

The significance of our voices matches the weight of our words. It hides the potential to motivate action, secure deals and can decide between getting your dream job or not. Within our voices lies the power to enrich meaning, express emotions, and unveil the key to projecting charisma.

In the YouTube Video "How to speak, so that people want to listen", Julian Treasure explains the importance of using our voices as a powerful tool to give us the ability to manipulate our Targets' attention. He shows the high impact of simple voice manipulations to archieve an targeted output.

There are "7 Sins of Speaking" which refer to character traits that make you lose your audience's attention. So try to avoid these.

On the other hand the "HAIL" list provides a quick overview of positive and charismatic ways to present yourself to the audience, so that people like you and pay attention.

Basically - Just be Yourself.

The Power of Our Voice

Humans prefer voices, that are low (coming from the chest), rich, warm and smooth.

There are many varieties for training this components. For example by using "Voice Coaches" and training our Posture / the way we stand. Use exercises to develop an appropriate breathing technique, which also has an impact on your commuication, such as the change of tones and to focusing on communicating meanings.

Improve

  • Pace
  • Silence
  • Pitch - how high
  • Volume - from loud to quiet

Try to avoid the wrong tonality and make it reflect what you are trying to communicate.

Exercises to Warm-Up your Voice

  1. 2x arms up, deep breath in - breath out as arms go down
  2. Warm up lips "ba, ba, ba..."
  3. Lips coming alive "brrrr" like kids
  4. Tongue exaggerated "la, la, la, la"
  5. Do "rrrrrrrrr" like champagne for the tongue
  6. Siren high to low 2x "oooweeeeaaaw"
