Help, I accidentally deleted my Headers in Tableau on purpose, but I want them back!

Well this is going to be a short first entry, but nonetheless an important one. It is something I came across several times myself and some of my cohort members as well.

I deleted my axis headers on purpose, because I assumed I won’t need them anymore. But… Well, I was wrong. I searched the internet for a solution, but failed miserably. One day I came across the solution accidentally.

So let’s go from this …

… back to this!

Just click on the tiny arrow on the right side of the pill in the rows shelf and choose Show Header. Repeat this with the pill on the columns shelf and your headers are back.

If you have removed your row labels via Hide Field Labeld for Rows, you can unhide them by using a right click on the empty white space and select Show Field Labeld for Rows.

When your data contains nulls an indicator appears. You can choose to hide it as well by right-clicking on the indicator. To unhide it go to Analysis on the ribbon menu at the top of the page. Choose Special Values and Show. Your null indicator should be back again.

Also if you would like to get your title back. Go to Worksheet in the ribbon and choose Show Title.

Now everything should be back again.
