The difference between Dimension, measures, Continuous and Discrete.

The differences between these four terms can be hard to confusing. I hope these visuals help convey the differences between them and what each of these terms means.

Micheal at it again! Think of dimensions as ways to describe each row of the data. In other words, the granularity of the dataset.
If you are ever unsure, ask yourself: The average of x. If it makes sense than it is a measure. E.g. The average profit made for the month - Makes sense. The average colour of a shoe doesn't.

In Tableau, a continuous field is denoted by a green pill!
In Tableau, a discrete field is denoted by a blue pill.
